Mallee bushfire update – Sunraysia Highway closed Two hundred and thirty three DEPI and Parks Victoria fire-fighters are battling seven bushfires burning out of control across the Mallee region this morning. Mildura Incident Controller Damian Kerr said: “Our focus this morning is on the 6,500 hectare fire at Bronzewing Flora and Fauna Reserve.” “We are keen to make some progress on this fire early before we see the strong south-westerly wind change that is expected later in the day,” Mr Kerr said. “Visibility is low and the Sunraysia Highway has been closed between the Calder Highway and the township of Speed, traffic management is in place.” “The 20,000 hectare fire in the Big Desert Wilderness Park near the South Australian border is also a high priority.” “The fire is impacting on the Red Bluff Flora and Fauna Reserve and Murrayville-Nhill Road has been closed as a result.” “And we currently have 15 tankers and 170 fire-fighters tackling a number of fires that have joined together near the Lake Albacutya Freeway Track in South Eastern Wyperfeld.” “We also have 11 aircraft supporting the fire-fighting effort across the Mallee region.” “Fires continue to burn near Rocket Lake in Murray Sunset National Park and next to Underbool Track in Wyperfield National Park. Both national parks have been closed along with Hattah Kulkyne National Park. “ People should keep informed by tuning in to ABC local radio, commercial and designated community radio stations or Sky News TV, via emergency.vic.gov.au, by downloading the FireReady App, through CFA’s Twitter and Facebook accounts or by phoning the Victorian Bushfire Information Line on 1800 240 667.
