Mammoth Ann Arbor Senior High demonstrates the versatility of VAMPCO and VAMPCO TRU-SEAL ALUMINUM AWNING WINDOWS. Heres a blast from the past -- a magazine for school board members with an advertisement for the product of a Plainwell, Michigan, industrial enterprise that supplied all of the ugly, shiny window frames for the new Ann Arbor High School on Stadium Boulevard, opened in 1956. (We shouldnt blame the window maker for the excruciating ugliness of that mammoth building, but the architects who selected the window materials. For the first time, I finally learn who the architects were; there are identified in this ad as Fulton, Krinsky and Della Motte. Do those names ring a bell with you? Me, neither.) Several years after spending three of my tender years at this prison farm, I was living in an old house on Thompson Street with a roommate who had not attended school in Ann Arbor. He worked in the Student Activities Building on campus -- a similarly ugly edifice. Roger referred to the high schools architecture as resembling that a nitirc acid factory.
