Man, its scary how technology can literally hold you hostage. I went to the hospital to see my Dad, and Sentara Norfolk. So, I pull up to the parking garage ticket station. Nobody is in the attendant booth. But, a sign says Push green button for ticket. So, I did just figuring the attendant was coming back. When I came back to get my car. I pulled up to the gate, nobody in the booth. Then the tower reads, scan the bar code on your ticket. So, I did and I get, The bar code has already been used or expired. Thats it. The gate wont open, theres nobody anywhere to be seen. So, I push the button that say Call kind of like at a bank drive through. Nothing, nobody. Gate wont go up to let me out, no directions anywhere other than scan your bar code on your ticket, which gives you a response of The bar code has already been used or expired. So, Im walking around looking for someone who knows what the hell is going on. Nobody. So, I tired to just get another ticket as if I were just coming into the parking lot, but pushing the green button. But, it must be weight triggered by cars, nothing. At this point Ive spent about 20 minutes to get out of the damn parking lot. So, I back my car out of the exit lane, re-park it and head back into the hospital. I see a Security Guard driving around and ask him how the hell you get your car out of the parking lot. He said, you have to go back into the building find a tower electronic box. Then you have to scan the bar code on the machine. It will tell you how much money you owe for parking. You put your money in the machine, then it gives you ANOTHER bar code. Take that bar code out of the building and back to the parking lot and use it to get out. Are you fricking kidding me??!! Then he say, Oh yeah one more thing. Do you have the exact amount? Because, those machines have not change mechanisms... it wont give you change. Are you fricking kidding me?? So, I owe $2 for parking and all I have is a 20 dollar bill. Are you fricking kidding me?? I owe $2 for parking, all I have is a 20 dollar bill and the machines are designed to not give change, so I have to pay $20 for $2 worth of parking??? Are you fricking kidding me??? After the Security Guard explained all of this to me. Went back in his van and drove off. Im standing there with my head spinning around. Then I heard him backing up in his van. He said, You know what? Then he said, use this bar code, it will get you out. He handed me a bar code and fist bumped me. If he had not happened to drive by while I was walking back into the hospital and saw him to ask him about it all. Id still be trying to figure out how the hell to get out of that parking lot. What a crock of shit.
