Man kills self after pursuit, police say Updated Oct 2, 2013 8:55 PM MIDDLETON, Mass. A man who tried to pass a fraudulent prescription for the narcotic OxyContin killed himself after being confronted by police in Middleton Wednesday night, police said. Witnesses told NewsCenter 5 the man, whose name was not immediately released by police, entered the CVS at 220 Maple St. *at the height of the evening rush hour. When a store employee alerted police, the man fled from two Middleton officers who had quickly arrived. At one point during the foot pursuit, the man was shocked by a Taser by one of the officers but kept running, police said. Police pursued the man into a nearby parking lot, and witnesses said he got into his car and reached for a gun. "I was just sitting across the street eating a sub, and all of a sudden I hear what sounded like a gunshot," said John Ingalls. "I came outside and there were cops with their guns drawn surrounding a car." "None of the officers opened fire," said Middleton Police Chief James DiGianvittorio. "Unfortunately, it appears the suspect shot himself."
