Manager Louis van Gaal reacted angrily on Friday to suggestions that club are to bid for a host of star names, but the Dutchman is expected to splash the cash for at least one player at the turn of the year, with German trio Mats Hummels, Marco Reus and Mario Gotze all linked, along with Atletico Madrid defender Diego Godin and long-term target Kevin Strootman. Despite that, van Gaal has been told by the United hierarchy that he must sell before he can buy, which means that the likes of goalkeeper Anders Lindegaard, midfielder Anderson and winger Luis Nani are all set to leave. Lindegaard has mainly served as backup to David De Gea since arriving at Old Trafford, and his departure is likely to pave the way for Victor Valdes to come in and provide more competition for his fellow Spaniard. Anderson and Nani both joined in the summer of 2007, and both have now fallen a long way out of favour, with the latter having joined former club Sporting Lisbon on loan until the end of the season.
