Manila, Philippines --- The President’s Social Fund (PSF) is no longer “audit-free” and reports of the Commission on Audit (COA) on how it is being disbursed can be accessed online, Malacañang disclosed yesterday. The PSF, also known as the presidential “pork barrel,” is all accounted for, Deputy Presidential spokesperson Abigail Valte said. Valte issued the statement in response to a call made by the fisherfolk group Pamalakaya for a comprehensive audit on the P24.8 billion PSF of President Benigno S. Aquino III last year. “For those who are asking how the PSF is being spent, it is used as special financial assistance for Armed Forces of the Philippines and Philippine National Police combat casualties. It is also a source of financial assistance for victims of calamities and disasters,” Valte explained in an interview with government radio dzRB. “So for those who are interested to see the COA report on the PSF, that is available for everybody to see,” she added. Pamalakaya issued the call amid debates on the proposed abolition of the pork barrel or the Priority Development Assistance Fund (PDAF) of lawmakers.
