Many folks may be upset by this...BUT there is a lot of truth to this. As a Black, millennial pastor who studies church life-cycles and emergent church theology, I see the old Black church becoming less and less relevant...which is why I am UCC and which is why most of my friends who are under 40 identify as spiritual but not religious. You shouldnt have to leave any part of yourself at home to be at church, and any church that accepts the tithes, offerings and gifts of LGBTQ people but wont allow them to be wholly themselves because of a man-made doctrine is unacceptable in the 21st century. If my friends cant go to your church, why do I want to be there? Its not just the old-school Black church though either...any church that has to vote on whether or not you can be a member because of who you are--whether you are LGBTQ or a person of color--is why young people find the church to be hypocritical and irrelevant. My hope is that the prophetic voice of the theologically Progressive Christian church becomes louder so that younger generations know that not all churches are the same. You dont have to leave the church altogether...there ARE churches who live and move with the Spirit that have evolved into the 21st century. #ALLchurches_arentTHEsame
