Many of the people who condemn the ritual sacrifices of Santeria have no pangs of conscience when they eat lobster, shrimps, crabs or crayfish. But these animals are boiled alive so that they may be eaten. And lobsters emit a shrill sound when thrown into boiling water that is as close to a scream of agony as that of a lamb led to slaughter. What is the rule that makes boiling an animal alive acceptable and humane? Why is it that killings animals in a slaughterhouse allowable but killing them in a place of worship is not? -Migene Gonzalez-Wipper QUESTION: Why is it that spiritual practices of African origin are condemned but not so for mainstream religions such as Islam, Hinduism or Judaism etc, where sacrifice is also an essential element?
