Many of the wetlands lost in northeast Minnesota are replaced elsewhere in the state, meaning that the useful functions that wetlands serve, such as habitat and water quality, are lost forever to Lake Superior and the Rainy River watersheds. “It’s just not a solution to destroy wetlands and replace them somewhere else,” said Kathryn Hoffman, staff attorney for the Minnesota Center for Environmental Advocacy.
