Many of you may be unaware, I was diagnosed March 22, 2002 with Polycystic Kidney Disease. My health was in dire straights. I suffered for months, from multiple complications, which I will not disclose. Suffice it to say, I underwent every conceivable test known to man, prior to being diagnosed with PKD. I entered the doctors office, alone! On that March day. My brother was en route to the airport to pick up my sister from her return trip from Australia. Imagine, being by yourself, just you and the doctor, as he matter of factly relayed these words... Considering the severity of your condition with this disease, the odds are not good. You have a potential life expectancy of 5 years and more than likely, you will require dialysis treatment, or possible kidney transplant. How does one digest this information? Devastated, crushed, fearful..My spirit was temporarily broken and I cried the remainder of the day. Learning to accept this diagnosis, battling the symptoms of this disease and managing to continue living a full and productive life has been challenging, to say the least. On the bright side, the doctor was wrong! I am still here, 12 years later, alive and kicking. I have good days and bad days, but I am still living. I am thankful for everyday and blessed that my kidney function vastly improved. I credit prayer and my higher power for the miracle and gift of life. This is my journey. There are millions more stories like mine. People living with PKD, a disease with no known cure, only management of the many symptoms & complications it poses on our health. Please, help me to spread awareness of PKD and share my story and the video below. Together we can fight to find a cure! Thank you. I love you all and will never stop fighting! Xo RozyRo PKD Awareness Day is Sept. 4th.... Please share this in honor of all who have PKD!
