Many people know that another Facebook page has been set up by people who are determined to blacken the name of Wiccaweys following the RSPCA raid last year - where NO action was taken by the RSPCA. There have been many adverse statements made about conditions at Wiccaweys by people claiming first hand accounts - the most recent being from a lady who visited Wiccaweys last week, following the arrival of the latest batch of rescue collies. She was claiming shocking unhygienic conditions at Wiccaweys, with uncared for dogs. She quoted BUT, I dont think they see, or understand, at all, that yes they are rescuing dogs, but putting them into almost worse conditions than they come from: cramped areas when there are fields all around, tin sheds, pretty grim surroundings and the place smells, the dogs living conditions ( not that I was allowed in) are pretty awful I suspect. Well she suspects WRONG. Olwen Turns was the lady behind the rescue of the pedigree collies that have found their way to Wiccaweys. She is an independent, well respected dog trainer, who is more than capable of making a welfare judgement. She did a unannounced spot check on the dogs that she had sent to Wiccaweys, because she had seen the reports on the other Facebook page regarding conditions at Wiccaweys. These are her UNEDITED comments on the conditions she found that she posted to the Wiccaweys Uncovered Facebook page.. As many people know I was asked to find a rehoming facility for the collies of a friend who had fallen on hard times, the friend requested Wiccaweys be asked to take them, for their own reasons. I went to Wiccaweys on Saturday to check on the dogs and conditions in general as I have been upset by the accounts on here [Wiccaweys Uncovered] and wanted to be sure that the dogs were being well cared for. I was expecting it to be absolutely awful but was totally surprised by the cleanliness of the place. I was given a guided tour, I suspect because of being a friend of a long time supporter. The old shop area was being used as a quarantine block, white washed walls, large regulation sized kennels with a choice of sleeping areas and an outside play area. The old barn needs a cosmetic lick of paint on the outside. Other than that there was nothing out of place, the only smell was of disinfectant, so it smelt like you had walked in to the vets. There were record cards on kennels for each dog. There was no poop anywhere, not even in the outside play areas. The dogs in the barn had free access to either the runs or the play area, and were being swapped around. I was there for about 4 hours as I walked the dogs I had sent there and saw 3 outside/kennel swaps. Sarah and Paul knew the names of each dog and their temperament individually and the dogs came to them when called. I even got the honour of a tentative lick from Raven. I was expecting the place to be a hell hole but found quite the opposite. So I am surprised by Judy Bloomers account. The collies you see in this video are the Pedigree rescue collies that came in this week. I am sure Olwen will be happy to comment to anyone who asks. Bear in mind, she made an UNANNOUNCED Spot check on dogs she had placed with us. Please make up your own mind about the conditions at Wiccaweys.
