Many rescue dogs from the north west of Western Australia are flown throughout Australia for treatment, foster care and rehoming. They find their way into local pounds then catch the eye (and tug at the heart strings) of organisations like SAFE Karratha, who then save their lives by flying them around the country and giving them access to new futures. Qantas recently increased their freight charges by 400% - an act that only came to light when SAFE Karratha received a hugely inflated invoice for pet transport costs. Previously it was $79 to fly a 45kg dog from Karratha to Perth, but that cost has now risen to an unaffordable $421. There are dogs and puppies desperately needing to fly out of the north west. Their only alternative in the pound is euthanasia. Please lend your voice to this petition and let Qantas know their actions are impacting on rescue animals. thepetitionsite/385/117/002/tell-qantas-their-freight-hikes-will-kill-thousands-of-pets/?cid=FB_TAF Further reading is available here perthnow.au/news/special-features/desperate-dogs-hitchhiking-from-karratha-to-perth-after-qantas-increased-freight-costs/story-fnd1xzft-1227155167122?utm_content=SocialFlow&utm_campaign=EditorialSF&utm_source=PerthNow&utm_medium=Facebook and here abc.net.au/news/2014-12-10/flying-unwanted-pets-to-capital-cities-may-soon-end/5958812
