MapleLeaks Archived MP of the Month ========================== Peter Penashue June 2011 This months MP of the Month is Conservative Party of Canada (CPC) MP, Peter Penashue. Penashue was chosen on the basis of a recent Harper move (no Lower Churchill 6.2 billion loan guarantee for Newfoundland and Labrador as promised during the 2011 Federal General Election by Stephen Harper), and Penashues lack of response to protest the move that could cost his province of Newfoundland and Labrador hundreds of millions of dollars, This is on top of another historical broken promise in the past: Harpers broken promise to protect offshore oil royalties from equalization clawbacks. How can Penashue join a party that does not represent the best interests of his province? How can Penashue stay silent and continue to belong to a party that continues to overlook the province whom he represents? Disgraceful. Harper only sees the resources and votes in Newfoundland and Labrador, which he can exploit for his own purposes. He does not treat Alberta in this way. Yet, Penashue provides tacit approval to Harper. In all likelihood, Penashue will serve only one term as MP, and he will lose in the 2015 General Election - given the political spectrum of his province (left leaning), and what his leader (Stephen Harper) did to his province. Unfortunate for Penashue since you must serve six years to qualify for a MP pension. I hope the sacrifice was well worth it - losing a pension that could be worth millions of dollars. https://mapleleaks/
