March 10, 2014 No Pub Date And when He has come, He will convict the world of sin, and of righteousness, and of judgment: of sin, because they do not believe in Me; of righteousness, because I go to My Father and you see Me no more; of judgment, because the ruler of this world is judged. (John 16:8-11 NKJV) The Witness Within Every week I have the privilege of presenting the gospel to those who attend our church. Ill typically conclude our services by inviting those who havent received Jesus into their hearts to come forward and do so. And every week I have the honor of seeing dozens of people respond as they publicly profess Christ as their Lord and Savior. And yet, I can honestly say that I have not led a single soul to Christ. Hold on, Pastor Bob, how can you preach the gospel, invite people forward, see so many respond, and still say youve never led a person to Christ? Arent you contradicting yourself? No, Im not because although I may be an instrument that God is using to proclaim His message, Im not the instrument that actually convicts a persons heart to the point of repentance. That task belongs to the Holy Spirit, who is described in Johns gospel as the One who convinces the unbelieving world of their sin and need for Jesus. As we witness to people on the outside, He witnesses to them inside their heart, touching places where no human can ever see or approach. I love this truth because it means Im never alone when I witness to someone. As I do my part on the outside, I know the Spirit is doing His part on the inside, and because Hes the one at work, wonderful things are bound to happen: Ah, Lord GOD! Behold, You have made the heavens and the earth by Your great power and outstretched arm. There is nothing too hard for You. (Jeremiah 32:17 NKJV)
