March 13 I have indicated already that I do not intend to boycott the Newark Archbishops Annual Appeal. Which does not mean I am not angry and embarrassed at the amount of money being spent on our archbishops retirement home. Does he really need three fireplaces? Yesterday I had an appointment at the gym with a personal trainer who is helping me to deal with my balance problem. Since he is African-American -- and, unfortunately not too many African-Americans are Catholics -- I thought it would be helpful to me to get out some of my anger if I talked to him about it. Presumably he would be objective. It turns out that Sean -- named after the actor Sean Connery --is a Jehovahs Witness -- although not practicing that actively these days. But my comments set him off. He did not convert me, but he certainly made me wish I had never brought up anything to do with religion! ############################################## Last night I told a priest in our parish he better not criticize the media when I am at Mass. I just might be tempted to get up and shout from the pew, Dont blame the media. The reason the Church gets so much bad publicity is because our bishops do so many stupid things.
