March 2007 was the first time I ever came to Accra on my own. It was tough and I didnt know anybody. I spent a sleepless night with mosquitoes and pick-pockets at the Kaneshie station. I dread that night! That was the circumstance under which I met Grace Gyimah-Boateng. Samuel Kwesi Kissi had told her about my situation and asked that she helped me. I suspect he was out of the country as he usually is. She hadnt met me before even though we were all members of Curious Minds-Ghana,a platform through which Id met Emmanuel Yeboah Ashong, Sidney, Edith Asamani and other amazing youth advocates two years earlier in the then plush Elmina Beach Resort. Grace was sorry for my situation. She picked me up from the Okponglo bus terminal (which I didnt even know at the time), accommodated me in her family house inside the expensive East Legon neighborhood, gave me good food and money enough for my return fare to Takoradi and even bread for kids in my house :) The years that followed would be some of the life-changing moments for me and working with all of these outstanding young people was apparently the springboard that I needed to be where we are today. Today, Grace has just graduated from Medical school and is or may soon be a Doctor. I know she must have forgotten my first encounter with her but on this great day, accept my sincerest thanks. May you be one of the best Doctors our country has ever produced. Touch more lives like you did to mine. God bless you Grace, cheers!
