March 28 1913....a baby boy was born to Gilbert E. Insley & his Wife Ella....they named him Gilbert Hartness Insley ....Hartness grew into a fine young man and was the youngest child with 3 sisters...Deniza, Em & Florence & 1 older brother Floyd.....they lived in a modest home on Bay St. and my Dad Hartness shared many fond memories of this..especially stories of duck hunting with his Dad, the love he expressed for Family & his fondness for his friends like Norman Holloway, David Willis and that entire family....these were precious memories for him and he passed that love & caring for others to us children....tragedy struck the Family when Gilbert and Floyd were killed in the 1924 Bus & Train incident leaving 11 yr. old Hartness the only male in the home and heading out to work on the water with his Uncle Jim !! Image what this must have been like for an 11 yr. old boy to suddenly become a man....not many could stand up to this but Hartness Insley did so proudly....He became a experienced waterman, married the love of his life & my Mom Mabel Smith and thats how we got here !! Just wanted to say Happy Birthday to the Greatest Man I have ever known and to show yall You can overcome anything if you put your heart and soul in it with Gods help. My Dad lost a child..lost his Dad & Brother when he was a child..had arthritis until his fingers were bent terribly and kept on with life...not once did I ever hear him complain....I would like to be 1/2 the man he was...Love you always Dad Hartness Insley and God willing I will see you again......Sonny
