Maricá has received many royalties from the Brazilian energy company Petrobras, because of the Campos Basin and Santos Basin oil field. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Maric%C3%A1,_Rio_de_Janeiro#Economy - worth a look ... The pre-salt reservoir off the southeastern coast of Brazil, dubbed the Libra field, was first discovered seven years ago, and is now believed to be one of the largest petroleum reserves in the entire world. Preliminary estimates place its size at 50 billion barrels, or about 20 percent of the oil in Saudi Arabia. Because it is buried so deep, the oil is exceedingly difficult to extract. But the unimaginable riches associated with this pre-salt oil are such that they justify expenses that would otherwise be unthinkable. And so Petrobas, Brazil’s state-owned oil producer, has just embarked on what may literally be the world’s biggest capital project, estimated at $240 billion over five years. Rio’s famous Guanabara Bay is now dotted with oil rigs under construction, which will later be hauled deep out to sea, where the drilling will take place. Construction is occurring at such a pace that Petrobas is having a difficult time finding the skilled workers—welders, crane operators, for example—necessary to keep its rig production on schedule. Current pre-salt production is minimal; just 310,000 barrels a day. Even at those levels, Petrobras PBR +0.17% is already the leading global producer of oil from waters deeper than 300 meters. But the company, with strong encouragement from the Brazilian government, plans on ramping up production quickly, and has targeted a figure of over 7.5 billion liters a day by 2020. forbes/sites/statoil/2013/11/05/pass-the-pre-salt-oil/ When I set off to find the biggest fields offshore Brazil, I didn’t expect them all to be in the Santos Basin. But this result doesnt really surprise me—for the Santos Basin is thought to be home to one of the world’s largest hydrocarbon deposits. oilpro/post/688/santos-is-the-key-to-brazil-s-embarrassment-of-og-riches Atualmente, nove das bacias sedimentares brasileiras (Campos, Espírito Santo, Tucano, Recôncavo, Santos, Sergipe-Alagoas, Potiguar, Ceará e Solimões), totalizando 1.645.330 km² (25,6% da área total), são produtoras de petróleo. pt.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anexo:Lista_de_bacias_sedimentares_do_Brasil - Brazil has nine oil-bearing basins ... en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Campos_Basin is located near Rio de Janeiro. - the one in the video. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Santos_Basin some 300 kilometres (190 mi) south east of São Paulo, Brazil. - the only two with Wiki entries in English, both mentioned in relation to Maricá, which looks as if it might be develops as an on-shore processing site for these two fields ... Could shale gas in Brazil be more competitive than pre-salt oil? By Peter Howard Wertheim, [email protected] Shale deposits exceed Brazil’s so-called pre-salt gas reserves, ANP head Magda Chambriard said to reporters, in Rio de Janeiro. Brazil also holds other types of unconventional gas, such as so-called tight sands and carbon gas, according to the ANP. Pre-salt refers to Brazil’s off-shore deposits, the world’s biggest crude discoveries this century. Shell already Brazil’s third-largest oil producer, is preparing to drill its first on-shore gas well in the second half of the year while it waits for the ANP to issue rules for the December auction, the company’s press office said. At the press conference Chambriard told Scandoil that the US, which is going through a shale gas boom, and Brazil hold frequent talks about unconventional gas in both countries. Shell will drill in the state of Minas Gerais, where closely-held Petra Energia SA is becoming the leading unconventional gas explorer in Brazil, focusing on so-called tight gas sandstones and tight gas carbonates, according to an e-mailed response to questions. The company has discovered gas in 12 of 14 wells it drilled in the Sao Francisco basin. Unconventional gas gives companies an opportunity to operate blocks in Brazil where state-run Petrobras, is guaranteed a majority stake in all pre-salt operations. scandoil/moxie-bm2/gas/politics_and_policy_gas/could-shale-gas-in-brazil-be-more-competitive-than.shtml
