Marine artillery training to shake things up at Fort Bragg April 28 to May 17 FORT BRAGG, N.C. – Marines from the 10th Marine Regiment will make the trek from Camp Lejeune to conduct their twice annual Rolling Thunder training at Fort Bragg from April 28 to May 17. The bulk of the live fire training will take place from April 30 to May 13, with units firing significant amounts of 155mm ammunition, which produces loud explosions and concussive reverberations. The Marines will comply with installation requirements that prohibit training from massing fires larger than battalion size between 11 p.m. and 5 a.m., daily and from firing from 10 a.m. to noon on Sundays. “Each time the Marines are here to conduct this live fire training, which they aren’t able to do at their home station, there is a misconception that artillery training is restricted during the overnight hours, which isn’t the case,” said Tom McCollum, Fort Bragg public affairs officer. “The range restrictions limit the amount of fire that can happen at the same time.” McCollum asks for the Sandhills region’s patience and understanding during the training. “We understand that this training can be disruptive and somewhat annoying, but as our military transitions from high-tempo deployment cycles to a force prepared for rapid deployment to conduct full-spectrum operations, we owe our Marines tough, realistic training that they will get here at Fort Bragg,” McCollum said.
