Marisa: The past few weeks have had little success counting hedgehogs in order to estimate the size of the population. Most of the reserves I have studied had few to no hedgehogs which discouraged me. This week I tested my theory in Tas-Sellum- that hedgehogs have adapted to an urban lifestyle to find food more easily. The area was built up with scattered fields surrounded by road and developments. I caught 13 hedgehogs ranging from juveniles to mating couples and pregnant hedgehogs! It supports my theory. Now to back up my theory, I’m heading to other built up/residential areas. Where should I look next?
