Mark 5:1-9 Get Used To It 1 They went across the lake to the region of the Gerasenes. 2 When Jesus got out of the boat, a man with an impure spirit came from the tombs to meet him. 3 This man lived in the tombs, and no one could bind him anymore, not even with a chain. 4 For he had often been chained hand and foot, but he tore the chains apart and broke the irons on his feet. No one was strong enough to subdue him. 5 Night and day among the tombs and in the hills he would cry out and cut himself with stones. 6 When he saw Jesus from a distance, he ran and fell on his knees in front of him. 7 He shouted at the top of his voice, “What do you want with me, Jesus, Son of the Most High God? In God’s name don’t torture me!” 8 For Jesus had said to him, “Come out of this man, you impure spirit!” 9 Then Jesus asked him, “What is your name?” “My name is Legion,” he replied, “for we are many.” We claim to be Christians. We claim to be Saints, but we often choose to ignore people on the other side. Sometimes we tend to ignore them because we remember when we were on the other side. Jesus went to the other side of the lake because thats where his assignment was. There was a man there who was full of mess who needed deliverance and restoration. Sometimes we leave the blessings that are assigned to our lives behind because we refuse to go and attend to those on the other side. We must get to a place where even if we dont want to go, we go anyway because were on assignment from God. Jesus stepped out of the boat and was immediately met by a man who was full of demons. We have to wonder where this mans family was. Where were his parents? Where were his supporters? Where was his pastor? Why had they given up on him in such a way that he was sent away from the general population to live among the dead? Could they not handle him anymore? He was among only dead people and the only contact he had with the living was when they were trying to bind him with chains. His only contact with the living was not for them to MINISTER to him, but to HARASS him. This man needed restoration in his life, but no one bothered to offer it. Galations 6:1 says Brothers and sisters, if someone is caught in a sin, you who live by the Spirit should restore that person gently. But watch yourselves, or you also may be tempted. Although this man was full of trouble, he needed and wanted restoration. He wanted to be ministered to. He had many evil spirits living inside him, and he was living among the dead, but he approached Jesus as soon as He stepped off the boat, fell at his feet and began worshiping him. The spirits knew who Jesus was and immediately began acknowledging Him as soon as he approached. Jesus began trying to identify the spirits as soon as the man approached. Many of us dont attempt to identify what our problems are before we attempt to find resolutions to them. Although the man was full of trouble, he was also full of favor. He knew where his deliverance would come from. Those who dropped him off in the tombs had no idea what kind of favor they were dropping off. They had no idea that Jesus was on the way to that very place. Yes, he was full of thousands of demons, but Jesus was about to bless him from the inside out. The demon possessed man had a spirit of expectation because he ran toward Jesus as soon as He stepped off the boat. He wanted resurrection, life, restoration and freedom, which is what Jesus was offering. Jesus called him out of his dead, lifeless places and back into life. People thought you were in the grave. They thought you were down for the count - but theyre about to see you in a different light. Let them know that youre back and they might as well get used to it. The anointing placed on your life has a specific place and purpose. Dont get caught up trying to apply your anointing in the wrong area. It will be ineffective. Although Jesus sent the man home to tell his family/community what the Lord had done for him, undoubtedly, we can imagine that after all the trouble hed caused, that many in his family and community didnt know how to accept him. Its the same way when God changes someones life today. Theyve been full of trouble, and full of mess, so many wont believe that God has delivered and restored them. They better get used to it, because God can use that very person to occupy a position and do a work that someone supposedly full of the holy ghost wouldnt do. God is calling people into His service who dont particularly look like saints or who havent acted like christians in the past ...... but everybody will just have to get used to it. Be glad you didnt get used to the mess of your past because then you wouldnt be ready for the blessing that God is about to bring about in your life. He is about to restore you to a better way of life! Get used to it!!
