Mark Twain once said that A man who carries a cat by the tail will - TopicsExpress

Mark Twain once said that A man who carries a cat by the tail will learn something he could learn in no other way. Have you ever noticed that if there is a wrong thing to be said, a misguided thing to be done, there are those who will invariably find a way to say it or do it? In any social situation involving a group of people, there is always the one individual who can be counted on to do or say the wrong thing. Ive thought about this and I think in many instances these awkward gaffes or mean-spirited remarks are the result of a need or subconscious cry to Hey! Look at me, I matter, too! No doubt, in some instances, the remarks or actions are meant exactly as they seem. But in most cases, I prefer to think there is an underlying cause for this behavior. By reacting to it, you are just re-enforcing it. By far, the best solution is to just ignore it or let it slide if at all possible to do so. To challenge the miscreant in public only leads to an embarrassing confrontation and makes the situation worse. As hard as it sometimes appears to be, sometimes the best option is to just let it go.
