Mark your calendars! During September 21-22 (Saturday and Sunday), the Art Gallery of Peterborough and 38 selected artists in Peterborough City and County invite you to explore the visual arts and fine crafts in the Peterborough area for the 29th annual Kawartha Autumn Studio Tour. All artists have been selected through a jury process, representing communities from Stoney Lake to Keene. They offer a rich diversity of arts and crafts ranging in oil, acrylic, watercolour and encaustic painting, printmaking, sculpture, textiles, jewellery, glass, furniture design, and ceramics, The 29th Annual Kawartha Autumn Studio Tour: Selections exhibition is currently featured at the Peterborough & the Kawarthas Visitor Centre, 1400 Crawford Drive, until Thanksgiving, 2013. The Art Gallery of Peterborough, 250 Crescent Street, will display works from the tour artists in a Selections exhibition from September 7 to October 27, 2013. Returning artists to the tour within the city of Peterborough are: jeweler Sandy MacFarlane, mixed media artists Bronson Smith, Shannon Taylor and Victoria Wallace, as well as painters John Climenhage, Anne Cavanagh, Mary McLoughlin, Peer Christensen, Rob Niezen, and potter Suzanne Woods. Painters David Parson and tour newcomer Neil Broadfoot will be artists-in-residence on September 21 and 22 at the Art Gallery of Peterborough. In Lakefield, textile artist Stephanie Ford Forrester, wood-turner Ken Logan, and potter Gail West are returning, and we welcome newcomer Peter Rotter. Throughout the County of Peterborough, the ceramicist team of Thomas Aitken & Kate Hyde, printmaker Jane LowBeer and painters Anne Renouf, Marilyn Goslin, Lucy Manley, Paul Cade and Olga Szaranski return, in addition to stone carver John Keith, glass artist Christy Haldane, and mixed media artist David Hickey. Newcomers include textile artist Faye Jacobs (Peterborough) and jewelerjeweler Annie Scherz (Peterborough), as well as painters Lorrainne Staples (Peterborough), Corina Kiefert Chester and Paul Chester (both Keene area) and potter Don Clark (Millbrook). Favourites are returning to the tour after an absence of several years; Jeweler Valerie Davidson (Keene area), ceramic artist Angelo di Petta (Millbrook), furniture maker John Ireland (Millbrook), painter Doug Andrews (Warsaw area), multi-media wood artist John Boorman (Lakefield), and encaustic painter Susan Fisher (Peterborough), are back. Celeste Scopelites, Director of the AGP, states “The Art Gallery of Peterborough is proud to offer the Kawartha Autumn Studio Tour as part of its annual programming. We support local artists, who enrich the cultural life of the community, boost tourism and stimulate the local economy.” The tour is self-driven and admission is free. Artists’ studios will be open to the public September 21 and 22 from 10 am to 5 pm.
