Markandey Katju The Monkey and the Tiger A tiger was the king of the jungle. He used to regularly win the election for the post of king held every year. One year a monkey also contested for the post. The animals of the jungle came to him and asked him what will he do if he wins the election ? He replied that if he wins he will go around here and there. So the animals of the jungle, thinking that the monkey meant that if he is elected he will do a lot of development, voted en masse for the monkey, and he won and became the king. The tiger was furious at his defeat, and he grabbed a fawn (baby deer) to eat it. The mother of that fawn came running to the tiger and asked him why he wanted to eat her baby. The tiger replied that he will eat it because the animals did not vote for him, due towhich he has to live in ignominy and shame. The mother deer then ran quickly to the monkey, who had become the King of the Jungle, and asked him to save her fawn. At that time, the monkey was jumping from tree to tree. The monkey replied In the elections I only promised that if elected I will go around here and there. I never promised to protect anyone. So I am going around here and there by jumping from one branch of a tree to another, and from one tree to another. The present Government is like that monkey. It came to power on the slogan of vikaas and similar jazz. Since it obviously cannot do any real vikaas which could give jobs to millions, disillusionment is setting in very rapidly, particularly among the youth who are feeling defrauded because they are not getting jobs, as the slogan vikas envisaged.. While 1 crore youth are entering the job market every year, only 5 lac jobs are being created annually ( see my article Unemployment in India on my blog justicekatju.bl ogspot.in). So all the talk of vikaas ( see my articles vikaas, malnutrition in India , and Healthcare in india on my blog ) was a lot of bluff by a man who has no idea of economics. Instead of vikaas we are getting a decline in GDP growth from 5.7% in th quarter April to June 2014 to 5.3% in the quarter July to September 2014, and manufacturing growth down to 0.1%. The decline in international fuel prices has somewhat salvaged the economic position, but this cannot last long. Of course ghar vaapasi may be regarded as a sort of vikaas by some people, but here too there does not seem to be much success. So what is to be done ? Well, what is to be done is to operate on stunts, e.g. Swachta Abhiyaan ( in which you are even permitted to throw garbage first, and then clean it with new shiny brooms ), Good Governance Day on Christmas, etc ,etc Happy Hunting 10 hrs · Edited · Public Unlike Page · Report 1,104 people like this.
