Marks Movie Reviews: Saving Mr.Banks. This is the story of Walt Disney, played by Tom Hanks, trying to make the movie Mary Poppins based on a series of childrens books written by P.L.Travers, played by Emma Thompson. Mrs.Travers doesnt want the movie made, and is only talking to Disney because shes broke and hes been pursuing her for 20 years. She refuses to sign a contract. In order to make the movie Disney must figure out what the books are really about and what Mrs.Travers really wants. Tom Hanks would never let us down; and Emma Thompson, last seen as the dingbat Trelawney in Harry Potter, does a masterful job, as usual, this time playing a recalcitrant curmudgeon. The acting is wonderful, the story is engaging, and apparently its mostly true.
