Marshall has been keeping us busy and on our toes the last couple - TopicsExpress

Marshall has been keeping us busy and on our toes the last couple of days. Hes still sick. His cough sounds horrible, when he can muster up the breath support to actually cough. He sounds more congested today than he has the previous days, and his oxygen sats are reflecting that. I have him on a little extra oxygen tonight and his numbers still arent where they normally would be on less oxygen. Weve been using his vest chest physiotherapy machine and his cough assist device frequently and hes requiring several breathing treatments a day. Thankfully, hes still eating pretty good and playing, but he isnt as talkative or as happy as he usually is. What makes this week even worse is weve had to postpone his birthday party. With Marshall sick and several other family members also sick, we feel its best to wait a couple of weeks to hopefully give everyone time to recover. It was only going to be a small celebration at home with family, but we were looking forward to it. Recently, the bright spot in Marshalls day has been when the mail arrives. Hes received several birthday cards and gifts from some of you. His face lights up when we read the cards or when he opens the gifts. You dont know how good it makes us feel as parents to know that so many people love our boy. Some days, especially this week, we struggle to give him something fun to do between treatments and medications. When he gets something new and fun in the mail, were just as excited as he is. We also appreciate the gift cards you all have sent to Marshall. Its fun to be able to go shop for something we know he will love. Weve even received a couple of gas cards in the last few weeks. You have NO IDEA how much that helps us. We make lots of scheduled trips to St. Louis every month (286 miles round trip each time), not including the unplanned trips, in a minivan loaded down with medical equipment and a heavy wheelchair, so travel costs are high for us. Im always amazed that people from all over the country, and all over the world, are generous enough to send gifts. Its overwhelming. The brightest spot in Marshalls day today was undoubtedly the awesome birthday gift he received from Mr. and Mrs. Joey Walters. Weve only mentioned it a few hundred times or so, but Marshall LOVES John Deere Tractors. His bedroom is decorated in John Deere, and, thanks to the Walters family and Marshalls Paw Paw and Uncle Craig, he has quite the collection of John Deere toys. Mr. Walters brought several tractor toys to Marshall last year too. Tonight, Daddy and Sissy-o met Mr. and Mrs. Walters to pick up his birthday gifts from them. They brought him a HUGE John Deere Combine to play with in the floor and a smaller one to play with in his chair. They even gave Sissy-o a gift so she wouldnt feel left out (which Sissy-o said was completely unnecessary, but she thought it was so sweet that they thought of her too). He was SO excited when he saw that big combine. He squealed and yelled A JOHN DEERE TRACTOR! and grinned from ear to ear. Hes been feeling so crummy the last few days, it did this mommas heart good to see him so excited. To the Walters family: we cant thank you all enough for the love and generosity youve shown our sweet Marshall. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for all youve done to make his birthday extra special this week. God bless you all!
