Mary Irene Jackson Age 71, of Minerva died Mon. Sept. 16, 2013. A devoted daughter, sister, aunt, and friend, Mary’s optimism, humor and kind spirit will be missed. Born in East Rochester, OH, she grew up on a dairy farm there and graduated from Augusta High School in 1961. She was the oldest of the late Edward and Eva Marie (Rutledge) Jackson’s five children. For 34 years, she worked for Ohio Power, retiring in 1999. Mary was a member of the Ohio Power Veterans Association and Ohio Power Retirement Club. Survivors include her friend Carl VanVoorhis of Waynesburg; sisters, Martha (Hugh) Long of New Garden and Wilma (David) Hohler of Canton; brothers, James (Leslie) Jackson of East Rochester and John Jackson of North Carolina; and several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great nephews (all “her kids”). A memorial service will be held Sat. Sept. 28th at 2:00 pm in the Gotschall-Hutchison Funeral Home in Minerva with Chaplain Larry Karlen officiating. Calling hours will be one hour prior to services. The Jackson family is grateful for the staff at Alliance Community Hospital for their care and comfort during Mary’s final days.
