He said he came out “extremely lucky” with the infection, since those infected have been known to lose infected limbs altogether. Edwards said he knows of two watermen from Tilghman Island who’ve had a Vibrio infection and were in the hospital for it as recently as last week. “It’s something I went through. I came out of it pretty good, but I know some people who weren’t so lucky,” he said. Seven or eight years, Edwards’ neighbor died from a Vibrio infection, he said. “One day he was fine, two days later he was sick and three days later he was dead,” Edwards said.
