Massive spring salmon being caught again in Scotland - we could - TopicsExpress

Massive spring salmon being caught again in Scotland - we could have salmon like this again on the Shannon Castleconnell was famous for fish like this - and much bigger - prior to the Shannon scheme, and could be again with a proper fisheries management programme. As well as failing in their statutory responsibility for eels (in our opinion) it is clear that the ESB have also failed salmon. If there were no ESB fisheries management staff would the situation for salmon be much worse than it currently is? Last year less than 500 salmon migrated through Ardnacrusha for example. The conservation limit for the Shannon above Ardnacrusha is 45,000 salmon per year. Could matters possibly be worse? In Scotland progressive salmon management programmes have brought the salmon back. As we approach World Fish Migration day it is also time for change on the River Shannon.
