Master Gardeners Lecture, Thursday, 2:30pm NATIVE BEE HABITAT GARDENING Its all about pollination and bees are the best at it. With all the issues bees are having, local beekeeper Ron Weisburg is working to solve these issues. You can be a part of attracting native bees for pollination to your landscape and garden. Join Ron at the Farmers Market Bluffton to hear solutions to bee issues in the Lowcountry. Ron will speak on June 13, 2013 at 2:30 discussing the need for native bee habitat gardening. Cindy, Ron ‘s wife needed pollination for her herb garden so Ron took a beekeeping class in Florida at Lee County Extension to help her out. With 45 hives, bees are more than a passion for Ron, they have become a business of producing honey and Cindy’s natural skin care products. Ron’s bees have access to 16,000 uncultivated acres in Beaufort and Jasper counties. Combining native bees with beekeeping hives helps to have better disease resistance colonies. Also cultivating native bees help native plants and gardens with more pollination which is helpful for all. Ron will discuss how you can attract native bees to your garden. Having bees to pollinate your garden will mean better flowers and mores produce for veggie gardeners. Sponsored by the Lowcountry Master Gardeners this lecture is free to the public.
