Match Report: Second friendly in in a hectic Christmas schedule for Phoenix Boys, we were up against a team today from Leinster senior league and they looked up for the game even as we drove in we could see the full scale preparation for a battle against the Phoenix. Johnny The Bullet Groome was off in the first 5 minutes with a ruptured hangover, well update later on his condition, Kurt Iron Man Starke kept his account open with a lovely 5th minute run capped off with a fine chip over a keeper who looked like he had headlights in his eyes. Minutes later Gary Elliott burst past the centre half to square the ball for Jamie McDonald on the far post to tap home easily, streak lives on even in Friendlies. Half time hit and we were 2 goals to the good and deservedly so but TEK came out strong and absolutely destroyed us in a ten minute flurry, the confidence was a bit too high for us and we let them back in it with their striker bagging a 6 minute brace and we were even again. A drab 10 minutes followed, both teams finding it hard to string 2 passes together, Peter Smith home from Australia making his full debut for the club snatches on to a mishit clearance and punishes them with a cleanly hit volley from 32yds rolling back the years but paid for it with an injury to his achilles, you could hear him say he was too old for this shit as he got treatment on the pitch but he stayed on calling himself a trooper. Minutes left and it was all to play for, Phoenix Boys hanging on to their lead when our CB was blinded by a run and left the midfielder with a free header at goal as a ball flew in from the left....... 3-3. TEK not letting up they attacked us again when Vice-Captain Willie OHagan went in for a 50-50.......PENALTY..... the devastation in Willies face said it all, we were done, we were tired, but we gave it a good go........ The striker stepped up, great save by our keeper but the rebound..... THE REBOUND..... It was in, it was over, what a game, what a Friendly.
