Matric Results 2014 To say we are proud of our matrics is an understatement. They have excelled this year - more than usual - and we have more students in the top 5% category than any other school in the country. St Mary’s has again achieved a 100% Bachelor’s Degree result with an average of 3,88 distinctions per student. The ninety-two girls who wrote matric achieved 357 distinctions between them – this includes four from AP Maths and one from AP English. That means 54,6% of our subject results were distinctions. This is remarkable and speaks to the commitment of our girls and their teachers. Special congratulations go to the ten students who, on a national scale, have placed in the top 5% of students who wrote the IEB Matric. Achieving this in five subjects are: Kyla Fry; Thalia Pillay; Carrie-Anne Rubidge and Jess Scott. Achieving this in six subjects are: Jess Lund; Julia Conradie; Megan Payne; Rachel Piggott; Rubina Valodia and Erin-Lee Watkinson. The subject departments’ distinctions were: 1. Accounting – 17 2. Afrikaans – 23 3. AP English - 1 4. AP Maths – 4 5. Consumer Studies – 5 6. Dramatic Arts – 15 7. English – 36 8. French - 1 9. Geography – 24 10. History – 23 11. isiZulu – 8 12. Life Orientation- 73 13. Life Sciences - 42 14. Mathematics – 39 15. Maths Literacy - 16 16. Music – 5 17. Physical Science – 17 18. Visual Arts – 6 19. Music (Practical) - 2 Our parents deserve thanks too, for their vital role that they have played in educating their daughters. This milestone is a significant one and once reached successfully, enables their daughter to have choices concerning her future. I am confident that they are prepared and ready for the opportunities beyond school. Whilst much of the attention will naturally go to our top achievers, I want to point out that every single girl achieved a fine set of results; being able to enter a Bachelor’s Degree at university should she want to. One does not usually look at the tail end of the results, but it is worth noting that only 1% of our subject results were under 50% and none were below 40%. Well done girls, all ninety-two of you have inspired us!
