Matt Erickson I thought the MN Republican Party encouraged - TopicsExpress

Matt Erickson I thought the MN Republican Party encouraged internal debate, but why did the party chairman make me turn my @David Gerson for Congress shirt inside-out? But "we need more young people like you, Matt." Still I work... — at CD2 Day at the State Fair. Like · · Follow Post · August 23 at 1:09pm via mobile Andrea Marit Erickson and 2 others like this. With regard to suggestions about fairness and constitutional propriety… While those seeking endorsement in 2014 of course are looking ahead to the new delegates and the conventions in 2014, what consideration do we owe the existing duly-elected delegates and their will? Ignoring the decisions of the CURRENT delegates or subordinating them to the activities of FUTURE delegates is not constitutional. The current delegates’ terms do not end for 9 months. The CD’s decision making authority is still vested in them and their elected leadership. And they are responsible to fulfill the duties of the CD. A current governing body cannot bind the will of a future one; neither can the prospect of a future body bind the will of a current one. The precinct caucuses start the process all over, not the state fair. At that point, the state party chair’s obligation is to provide a fair and open process for all candidates, both incumbents and challengers. In party-sponsored activities in the odd year, the will of the current delegates needs to be respected, including an endorsement which resulted in a Republican general election victory. If the state party chair were to undermine the duly-voted will of the current delegates, it would be a serious top-down beach of self-governance in the CD’s and BPOU’s. That said, I am glad to offer the access and support of the state fair booth to any candidate who is seeking Republican endorsement in 2014 and has a registered campaign committee and a list agreement with the CD or BPOU in which they are running.
