Matthew 11:14: And if you are willing to receive it, he is Elijah who is to come. So, if the Jewish people would have responded to John and accepted his testimony that Jesus is the Messiah, John would have fulfilled the prophecy concerning the coming of Elijah. That’s what Jesus taught. So listen — here’s the point. We’re not given the identity of these two witnesses, purposefully. They are similar to Moses and Elijah — but it’s a mystery — and there are problems with them literally being Moses and Elijah or even Enoch, that we’ll see in a few verses. But, certainly they came in the SPIRIT and Power of Moses an Elijah — and they fulfilled the prophetic ROLE, to prepare the people for the Kingdom. That was their mission — that was their role — to point, specifically to the identity of Jesus, to call for repentance, to prepare people for the arrival of the Messiah. And they will not be well received. Their message will not be popular. They will be opposed — but they will be supernaturally protected, as God’s witnesses….
