Matthew 6:5-8…..Remember that these next two sections are all related and pointed to how we Give/Serve, Pray, and Fast. These are the only outward advances that we have as Christians. All we can do is Give to the Service of the Lord and of course our biggest weapon is Prayer and we are to pray with a whole heart, prayers of honesty, and our Fasting, giving up something that is of meaning to us for an amount of time. Let me get a little personal here. When you fast, are your points of fasting easy or does it take a concerted effort, to the point of concentration towards the Lord to get past the desire of what you have fasted? If you fast candy but you don’t eat that much candy does it serve the purpose of fasting. King David was offered a field and a bull for sacrifice to the Lord but David said “I will not give something that does not cost me anything” Does your fasting cost you something? If you have noticed, everything that we do in our Christian walk is based on these three points. That is not an easy thing to notice but there it is. (Giving, praying and fasting) Think about it, this is what we do as a congregation together or as an individual or in a one on one situation. It makes us look at the point of our motives doesn’t it? I know I wish I was a better prayer, but God wants the truth of the prayer not a bunch of empty words. Many a-words will not make better Christian they make you more religious. There are times that we need to pray for others and it is quite helpful especially when the one who needs prayer cannot pray, or have you ever been “prayed out?” This is the time that you need someone to come along side and hold you up in prayer. I am sure that we have all been there. As you pray you know when your prayer is over the top and is on the religious side and this is when we need to stop praying, when we turn it to ourselves. Jesus says to go into your inner room and pray, probably so you’re not distracted in the prayer because the Lord takes these points very seriously and so should we.
