Matthew 7 for Wednesday, January 15, 2014 Summary: This chapter continues the Sermon on the Mount. Jesus teaches about not judging others nor disregarding ones own sins while focusing on those of others. Prayer and the Golden Rule appear next. Jesus goes on to tell the listener to follow righteousness and not just follow the masses. Jesus warns that a right life, one with fruit, should determine trust in any leaders teaching. Next He tells the listeners that knowing and being known by God is more important than claimed accomplishments. He concludes by declaring His teaching as authoritative and worth following. One Observation: Jesus seems to be teaching that all character and action should come from God teaching and be lived out humbly and responsibly. Two Ideas: I see in this passage Gods instruction on prayer that all should follow. I see Jesus directing followers to focus on a relationship with Himself above all else. Three Questions: Do we continue to let God teach and mold us as He desire? Can we truly say we seek to know and be known by God above all else? Are we willing to be a part of others lives knowing our care, actions and words will either honor God or reveal our own shortcomings?
