Matthew has had a better couple of days. We have found a home, - TopicsExpress

Matthew has had a better couple of days. We have found a home, which we will be moving into in the near future. We had taken Matthew to see the house and he was very happy and content; very similar to his attitude towards our previous home. Matthew has behaved so well these last couple of days. Matthew has followed directions wherever we have gone, sat and waited quietly and patiently, has not been confrontational, and has only spoke to strangers with permission and then only asked pertinent questions in an appropriate way. The people Matthew has spoken to have responded to his politeness and good manners in a positive way (without knowing anything about Matthew), further reinforcing to Matthew the rewards of good behavior. One of the examples was today when we were signing the contracts for the house, Matthew found and went to the restroom all on his own; something he has never done. For those of us with children on the spectrum, when you accomplish a task after many attempts it is really proud moment for your child. Matthew was really excited he accomplished this, all on his own saying, “I did it, Mommy, I did it on my own! Are you proud of me?” I told Matthew I was very proud of him and gave him lots of hugs and kisses as a reward. Even the people in the office were happy for Matthew and gave him congratulations for his achievement. Matthew is looking forward toward his new home, being able to get his stuff, running and pacing the way he likes. He is so happy, and I am very happy and proud of my son.
