Maureen May art exhibit opens Jan. 9 Maureen May will exhibit an array of art in an exhibit titled The Long and the Short of It: An Exhibit of Recent Works, at the San Juan College Henderson Fine Arts Center Gallery, January 9 – 30. An opening reception will be held Friday, January 9, from 5 to 7 p.m. May of Durango, Colorado, has been practicing art for over 40 years. Her early studies at the American Academy of Art in Chicago, under the tutelage of Eugene Hall, instilled a desire for challenge and experimentation. The medium of monoprint, also referred to as monotype, seemed the perfect fit, both challenging and exhilarating. It is the medium’s spontaneity and unpredictability that best expresses her current self. Her primary focus has been printmaking, though she continues to indulge in painting, drawing and assemblage. The Henderson Fine Arts Center Art Gallery is open Monday through Thursday, from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m., and on Fridays, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. For further information about this exhibit or other Gallery events, contact the Art Gallery at 505-566-3464.
