May 2014 From Our Pastor This year most of the month of May is included in the time when the Church remembers the forty days that Jesus appeared to people after his resurrection. After the forty days the Church will celebrate the day Jesus ascended to heaven. The faith of the Church is boosted by the accounts of the risen Jesus appearing to people. These sightings support the news that three days after he was crucified and placed in a cave – the cave was empty. It is interesting to note that Jesus didn’t go to show himself to the political or religious leaders. Instead, Jesus went to spend time with the people of Galilee. These communities around the Sea of Galilee are where Jesus spent most of his years of ministry. Again Jesus gives us an example for our own lives of faith. Most of us will be given opportunities for sharing God’s love and mercy right in our neighborhoods. As we come in contact with people who have little hope for the future and others who face struggles to live each day – we can share God’s promise to supply encouragement and strength through his followers. Coupled with addressing people’s physical needs we followers of Jesus can also share the Good News of forgiveness and life. This is the same Good News Jesus shared those forty days; that because he lives we shall live also, and the nothing, even death, can separate us from the love of God expressed in Jesus.
