May Ballot Finalized as Qualifying Deadline Passes Paris, Tenn.- The deadline to qualify for the May 6th primary in Henry County passed on Thursday with no new candidates being added to the ballot. Jason Raines had picked up papers to run for circuit court clerk earlier in the week but decided not to turn them in, so the race for circuit clerk remains the same. Henry County voters will choose between incumbent Mike Wilson, Lisa Wade, and Daniel Powell for Circuit Court Clerk. The trustee’s race is also a contested one this spring. Incumbent David Stone remains on the ballot and he continues to be in rehab until March 13th after being arrested twice within eight days in January. Stone is currently on medical leave. Leisa Wimberly, first deputy in the trustee’s office, qualified to have her name on the ballot for the Trustee in May as well. Wimberly turned her papers in last week and she is currently running the trustee duties at the office during Stone’s absence. Randi Allen French will also be on the ballot for trustee in the May primary after qualifying earlier in the year. The winner of this primary will face off against Cindy Hopkins during the August county general election. Hopkins qualified as an independent candidate and does not have to go thru the democratic primary in May. Others offices up in the May primary will all see incumbents running with no opposition. County Mayor Brent Greer, County Clerk Donna Craig, Register of Deeds Pam Martin, General Sessions Judge Vicky Snyder, and Sheriff Monte Belew have all qualified to run for re-election and will run unopposed in May. The May primary will be held Tuesday May 6th. Early voting for the May primary is April 16th thru May 1st. The last day to register to vote for the May primary is April 7th, the last day for candidates to withdraw from the race is February 27th at noon. August’s state primary and county general election will be a big one as well as several office will be up for grabs including all 15 county commissioners’ seats, constables, and more. The deadline to qualify for the August ballot is April 3rd at noon.
