May is Brain Tumor Awareness Month. Will you help us raise awareness? You can do your part by simply sharing our posts. Chemotherapy and radiation therapy are used in the treatment of brain tumors. Both treatments are toxic and can have life long devastating effects. Chemotherapys side effects include hair loss, nausea, diarrhea, vomiting, fatigue, mouth sores, seizures, kidney, heart, and liver damage, and reduction in blood cells. Some of these side effects are temporary while others may be permanent. Radiation therapy uses high energy x-rays to kill cancer cells and keep them from growing. Radiation to the brain can affect growth and development in young children. It can also cause secondary cancers to develop later in life. We must do better for our children. Our children deserve safer, more effective treatments that allow them to not only survive, but live a good quality of life.
