Mbomuzo Umuihi, Ihitte/Uboma LGA, Etiti, Imo state. This is Etiti peoples version of Iri ji. This means celebrating of a new agricultural season and thanking God for the end of last farming season. In my own local community, it consists of 1, Eze, nzes and cabinet meeting to choose dates for the festivities. Upon dates announced, age grade meetings starts taking place-this is to decide on what costumes/uniform to put on and iri ngbanyụ (dinning and wine drinking). 2, the first significant day is called Nkọmụọnụ- the 4 wards in Umuihi is involved in one way or the other. Umuokoro and Umuowushi will engage in verbal battle, Umuowushi usually wins. Umuelem comes to separate the parties and establish peace; finally, Ihinna community calculates the results and announces the winner. Second important day is called the ib ọ cha ama day. This involves elders coming out en masse to clear the major roads and footpaths in the community. The d-day is Mbomuzo, when guest are entertained, age grades, perform different dances and songs. The evening was for kids to visit some homes with songs and collecting nkpurusu (baked melon-egusi). A day after Mbomuzo is mmanya ọra. Kindreds gather to drink left over drinks. This is followed in the evening by iho Isinweke-age grades singing and dancing at the Capital of the LG as part owners of the capital. Long live Igbo culture.
