Meaningful, impassioned, substantive online discussions are happening around the vote AIGA members have been asked to make regarding choices around the future of the association. Read up and decide. Be informed. Be engaged. Add your voice. Cast your vote. 1) From the AIGA Board of Directors and Executive Director Ric Grefé: Share Your Voice on AIGAs Future aiga.org/share-your-voice-on-AIGAs-future/ 2) An opposing view, in the form of An Open Letter to the AIGA: Status Quo or Transformation? A False Choice posted on Design Observer, from AIGA medalists and former board members: Michael Bierut, Hugh Dubberly, Steve Heller, Debbie Millman, Noreen Morioka, Anthony Russell, Paula Scher and Michael Vanderbyl. Make sure to read through the growing list of impassioned and reasoned responses in the comment section. observatory.designobserver/feature/status-quo-or-transformation-a-false-choice/38159/ The intensity, commitment, and diligence of the design community, represented by the full range of points of view being expressed, are important for the ongoing r/evolution of the profession and design education, and the relevance and growth of your design association, nationally and locally. Whether you vote yea or nay, stagnancy, entropy, and rushed judgments are not options. Change is challenging. Learn the issues. Have an opinion. Dont sit on the sidelines. Get involved. While for many the points being raised now may seem sudden and out of the blue, the process has gone on for a period of time, with discussions around strategies and options around AIGAs future happening at multiple levels and opportunities: from deliberations among the national board; feedback from design leaders; hearing the voices of chapter leaders at national leadership retreats, online forums, and local chapter retreats; in discussions at chapter roundtables; and in the encouragement of public discussions and feedback/comments through the monthly member newsletter Communiqué and in the Insights articles and webcasts at aiga.org/aiga-insight/. Stay tuned, indeed.
