Mediterranean Meat and Deli- 2307 Oakdale rd., Modesto, Ca. WOW! Great food, great value! Really got a kick out of this place! Upon entering, we were greeted warmly by several workers in the place. The friendly young man at the counter took time to point out their menu options, and offered us samples of both meats and salads! And we were shown the meat counter by the butcher. And I do mean butcher! Most meats carved by hand, didn’t see any machines at all, but then I wasn’t looking. He showed us a ten pound bag of meat prepared for a local taco truck, all done by hand. Anyway, we ordered a meal deal to go, as they are not quite ready for sit down dining, (they need to have bathroom installed on site, first) My wife and I sat down to a full meal of BBQ’d Tri tip, beans, and Mediterranean style pasta salad, with a loaf of garlic bread. (sounds deceivingly typical, but read on-) It even came with a tub of BBQ sauce. A good sauce, mind you, but I recommend using it very sparingly, if at all, like one uses horseradish on prime Rib. The Tri-tip is just so wonderful all by itself-cooked perfectly, very tender, very small fat ring on outer edge, keeping it moist, and oh, what great marinated flavor! Slightly smoky flavor, not overdone, You just have to try it! The pasta salad was very good, as well. Al-dente, different types of pasta, and not overtly Mediterranean- In other words, it wasn’t drowned in salad dressing, nor overtly filled with too many onions, green olives, etc.- Just enough for a nice balance! And the beans! Manly type, BBQ beans at their best! Several different types, with a real home made sauce, onions, and tons of shredded meat! ( Insert Tim Taylor tool time grunt, here) Very tasty, and by no means typical or standard! And, the garlic bread- still warm, as all was, after we traveled home and even stopped by another store- very well seasoned, and soft- I thought about making a tri-tip sandwich with it, but didn’t want to mix flavors, yet. Now, Let’s talk value! My Wife and I didn’t hardly dent what we took home. We had over half of everything left over! When they say this meal will feed 4 (For 28 bucks, mind you, only 7$ per person) They aren’t kidding! We are now looking forward to tri tip sandwiches with beans, and my wife plans on adding some chicken to the pasta salad, for her Monday lunch at work! Great food, great value, nice friendly staff, well stocked, custom butcher shop, marinating and BBQ’n as well, It’s all good! I give then 2 thumbs up all around, and will be back- give’em a try!
