Meet five distinguished Indians: Dr Daljit Singh - is a world renowned eye surgeon and Padmashree awardee. He was the first to introduce intra ocular lens implants in India in the 70s, and introduced many innovations in eye surgery for Glucoma and Cataract. Lakhs of Indians can see better today, thanks to him. Rachna Dhingra was just 8 years old when India suffered from the worst chemical disaster in the world, the Bhopal gas tragedy. She used to work in the US and Dow Chemicals was her client. She gave up her job and came to Bhopal to lead the Bhopal Group for Information and Action and fight for compensation to the victims (which they have still not received). Sarah Joseph is a well known and award winning Malayalam author. She has been at the helm of the feminist movement in Kerala, and also leader of the anti endosulfan campaign (endolsufan is a persistent pesticide sprayed on cashew plantations and resulting in deformities in babies at birth) demanding a ban on use of this chemical. Soni Sori was a tribal school teacher who was arrested by the Chhattisgarh Police on the claim that she had ties with Maoists. After several years of torture and rape in prison she was released for lack of evidence. Soni Sori returned with her spirit intact and a vision to transform Bastar to a place where children hold pens and not guns. Tiliya Devi is from the Mushar community in the Dalit heartland in Bihar, grew up as most Mushar girls do: slaving as a bonded laborer. Tiliya Devi struggled against the upper cast Yadavs for years, and finally restored the ownership of land that belonged to her community back to them, and relieved them from bondage. Tiliya Devi is a Nobel Peace Prize nominee for 2005. These five inspiring Indians have one thing in common. They are all Aam Aadmi Party candidates for Lok Sabha 2014.
