Meet the face. This is Colton. He is our newest stud prospect. Colton is 5 months old, born here at Hidden Acres Farm. He is a gorgeous bright apricot brindle. Dad is General Shelby and Mom is Jessie James. He is going to have some pretty big shoes to fill here. Our two working studs, Bull and Shelby are both certified Therapy Dogs. Colton is already in his 2nd round of formal obedience classes...next step will be his Canine Good Citizen. Then when he is old enough the Therapy Training and Certification. A dog has to be at least 2 years old to be certified as a Therapy Dog so Colton has lots of time to practice. Personality (temperment) and rock solid training is the combination for a good therapy dog. They have to be people dogs and curious, not shy and accepting of new experiences without being pushy or demanding. Colton has that outlook on life. Now my job is ensure the training, socialization, and exposure get done and done well. Did I say training? Not all dogs have what it takes to be a therapy dog......some of mine like the farm and thats where they want to be....Others love the training and the road trips and look forward to it. Will Colton eventually become a therapy dog? Dont know.....but we plan to have lots of fun on this journey.
