Mega tourism project in doldrums: A mega tourism project under Religious Tourism denomination has been drafted by the State Tourism Department with enfolding 50 crore Buddhist circuit for Ladakh and 100 crore Sufi and heritage preservation circuits for Kashmir and Jammu. Despite favourable reaction from the Union Tourism Minister to the project, the Planning Commission has not as yet cleared the plan. The fate of the mega tourism project, thus hangs in balance. State Government should expedite its efforts to garner support for the ambitious project. We believe that there is lot of sense in promoting the religious tourism projects in our state as stated in the draft proposal. This will fulfill religious, cultural and historical sentiments of the people of the State especially when the project will be covering all the three regions. It has enormous tourist potential because old and existing religious tourists spots will be streamlined and new spots will be discovered for diversity sake. Ultimately, the people of the State will immensely benefit form these projects.
