Megan DiCesare posted this video. I think this is really first rate, and wanted to share it as well. And it really got me thinking... As someone who utilizes smartphone technology throughout almost every day, I see the usefulness of these devices as tools. But they are just that. Tools. They do not, should not, and cannot replace human beings. When we go out in service, we dont give a witness via our smartphone or social media, sure, we use them as tools to show an educational video, or to locate that just right scripture, but using them cannot substitute for the interaction of looking the householder in the eye and seeing the person behind those eyes. As someone who loves to take pictures, I love the immediate ability to capture a sliver of the daily moments that go on all around me. But all they are is but a small section of an orange. An orange in which you get only a portion, a fraction, a sliver. Enough to get a taste of the moment, but not be satisfied. To see the color of the orange, but not to feel the juice in your fingers as you peel it and break it into sections. Spending life surgically attached to a smartphone is not experiencing life. Looking up from the screen for a moment, or telling the world every time you eat pizza or go to the bathroom do not, should not, and cannot replace seeing with your own eyes the smile of another human being as they take that first bite of the worlds best pizza, that first sip of your favorite beer, or the last slurp of the worlds best chocolate milkshake as it exits the straw. Take a picture, but dont miss the moment. As someone who lives alone, with just a little dog for companion at home, the need to share, to interact, to connect, becomes almost unbearable at times. I can understand how the use of Facebook and Instagram become so addicting to people. And while to an extent, these mediums do help us stay connected with love ones far away, they do, should not, and cannot replace being a part of the lives of those around us. Our creator has given us the need to share life. I find that need neatly expressed in this video. It is very well illustrated that life is meant to be shared on personal level, and not entirely via a screen or monitor. WE SHOULD NOT LET OUR LIVES BE TAKEN OVER BY THE DEVICES WE USE.
