Meghalaya ILP Legislation After Wednesdays fiasco over public consultation on the draft tenancy bill drawing flak, the state government is now on tenterhooks, trying to figure out its next step to clear the way for its proposed legislation aimed at checking influx of outsiders and illegal immigration into the predominantly tribal state. Students drawn from several colleges in the state capital, who were apparently in favour of introduction of the inner line permit (ILP) system in the state, had not only walked out of the consultative meeting on the draft tenancy bill at the State Central Library Auditorium, but also had torn copies of the proposed bill. They have expressed their views in the way suited them. But that does not mean that the government will stop carrying out consultation, a senior official said. He added that the draft tenancy bill would be discussed at several forums.
