Rawiller © Sizzling Stu’s Super Selections -------------------------------------------------------- SIZZLING STU’S 2013 MELBOURNE CUP RUNNER BY RUNNER RUNDOWN 1. DUNADEN: 2011 Melbourne Cup winner who ran 14th last year, but wasn’t suited by the slow tempo last year. Racing well this year over shorter distances and is an each way chance. 2. GREEN MOON: Won this race last year, was ok in the Cox Plate, but he did the same last year in the Cox Plate. Has won 3 from 7 at Flemington and has to be included. 3. RED CADEAUX: Beaten by the barest of margins in the 2011 Melbourne Cup. Was a good 8th last year in this race. Will get back early from the wide barrier and look for him late. Rough chance. 4. SEA MOON: Good solid win last start in the Herbert Power, he is unknown at the distance, but races as though the 3200m should suit. He comes in well at the weights. Each way if you like him. 5. BROWN PANTHER: Soccer great Michael Owen is in the ownership, I like the way he won the Goodwood Cup over this distance 2 starts ago in good time and carrying 60.5kg. Carries only 55kg here. The one to beat. 6. FIORENTE: Runner – up in this race last year and stuck on well in the Cox Plate when 3rd. Only carrying 1.5kg more this year and has been set for this race all along. Each way chance. 7. FORETELLER: Absolutely flew home in the Cox Plate when 4th. Unknown at the trip, but he usually settles well in his races. He’ll be powering home late and is in with a chance. 8. DANDINO: Arguably should’ve won the Caulfield Cup if he’d drawn better. Drawn much better here in 4, he’ll settle closer to the speed this time and is a chance if he runs the 3200m out. 9. ETHIOPIA: Ran a HUGE 4th on Saturday in the Lexus. Got injured in this race last year coming out of the barriers. Bred to stay and not badly drawn in 14 as he’ll get back early. Don’t leave him out, blowout chance. 10. FAWKNER: Caulfield Cup winner who was strong to the line on that occasion. He loves Flemington, only missing a place once. 3200m is the question mark. Place chance. 11. MOURAYAN: Ordinary run in the Mackinnon, surprised they are running him. Has won over this distance in the 2012 Sydney Cup. Can’t have. 12. SEVILLE: Metropolitan winner who ran well in the Cox Plate without threatening. Races as though he’ll run the 3200m and is a rough chance. 13. SUPER COOL: Runner – up in the Victoria Derby last year. Been racing as though the 3200m will suit. Worth thought for your multiples. 14. MASKED MARVEL: 2011 English St Leger winner. His runs in Sydney were good and then was just ok in the Cox Plate. Think he lacks the class to win a Melbourne Cup. Prepared to risk. 15. MOUNT ATHOS: HUGE run in last year’s Melbourne Cup where off a slow pace charged home for 5th. Working well and looks to have improved. A definite winning chance. 16. ROYAL EMPIRE: Godolphin runner who has a very good strike rate and comes in well at the weights. Been racing in Group 3 company in England however. Place at best. 17. VOLEUSE DE COUERS: Name means Thief of Hearts in French. Irish galloper now with Mike Moroney. Irish St Leger winner who has settled in well. Don’t dismiss. 18. HAWKSPUR: Unlucky not to have finished closer in the Caulfield Cup. Won the QLD Derby in the winter and races as though the 3200m will suit. Must be included in your multiples. 19. SIMENON: Worth noting he has had 6 starts over 3200m for 2 wins, a second and a third. Extremely well in at the weights. Knockout hope. 20. IBICENCO: Won the Geelong Cup on a bog track. Can’t have. 21. VEREMA: From the same stable as 2010 winner Americain. Won her past 2 in Group 2 level and handles the 3200m. In the mix. 22. DEAR DEMI: Won the Crown Oaks last year here. Her Caulfield Cup run was excellent when 3rd and her 2nd in the Mackinnon was good. The question is, if she wins will Singleton shout the bar? He stands to win a further 6 million off bets on her. Definite chance. 23. TRES BLUE: French mare who has been running in weaker class and the 3200m is a query, but is well weighted. Hard to have. 24. RUSCELLO: Won the Lexus on Saturday when he led throughout. Will lead and with Cox Plate winning jockey onboard in Chad Schofield has to be a rough chance with only 50kg.
